Call for Plays!

The Reading Theater Project, in partnership with the Boscov Theatre at GoggleWorks Center for the Arts, invites local playwrights to submit long one acts (30 minutes or longer) or full length plays for our Play Reading Series this spring. 

All plays should connect to the theme “Shadows from the Past” – how is up to you as the playwright.  Plays are for an adult audience; mature language and themes are ok, but not required. We are not looking for 10-minute plays,  musicals, or plays for young audiences. 

Playwrights must be local to Berks, Lancaster, Lebanon, Chester, Montgomery, Lehigh, or Schuylkill county.  

If selected, you will be paired with a director, and your play will be cast with actors.  Each play will receive several rehearsals and a live, performed reading in the Boscov Theatre at GoggleWorks Center for the Arts, Reading, PA. Performance dates are set for Thursdays nights at 7pm: April 13, May 11, June 15.

Selected playwrights are expected to communicate with the director and attend rehearsals (if possible). Playwrights are required to attend the performance as well as participate in a talkback with the audience following the performed reading.  Playwrights will receive a $50 stipend for the performance of their play. 

If you qualify, please submit your play as a pdf and a letter of introduction to:  info@readingtheaterproject.org. In your letter, please include: 

• An introduction to your play, including how it connects to our theme, Shadows from the Past, the major themes or story ideas in the play, and its development or production history, if appropriate.
• The city and county you live in.
• Any conflicts with the performance dates. 
• Anything else you think we should know about you.

Submissions are due February 1, 2023.  Selected playwrights will be notified by early March.
